Affordable workouts available at 3 Miami-Dade fitness rooms

Looking for a place to work out but can't spend too much on a gym membership? Miami-Dade County has reopened three community fitness centers – at an affordable price for bargain-hunters.

The Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is offering use of its wellness facilities for $5 per month, plus tax and an annual registration fee of $12.

Check out the fitness rooms at Goulds Park, Gwen Cherry Park and Oak Grove Park. Workout days and hours of operation vary.

Goulds Park Community Center: 11350 SW 216th St., Miami; 305-255-2399. Fitness room hours: 8 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sundays.

Gwen Cherry Park's NFL-YET Center, 7090 NW 22nd Ave., Miami; 305-694-4889. Fitness room hours: 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekends.

Oak Grove Park's Father Gerard Jean-Juste Community Center, 690 NE 159th St., Miami; 305-944-8670. Fitness room hours: 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays.

“We are thrilled to be able to reopen these fitness facilities. Park spaces like these are essential to people in our community,” said Miami-Dade County Parks director Maria I. Nardi, in a news statement. “They serve as hubs of health and wellness for improving physical, social and mental well-being and are aligned with our goal of providing park and recreation services that better lives. They provide a much-needed outlets for people to exercise, manage stress and engage with others. They connect people and parks for life. I highly encourage everyone to get out and experience our beautiful parks and exercise regularly.”

Please note: The park's and facilities will all be operating under COVID-19 New Normal Guidelines, which include wearing facial coverings and maintaining social distance. For more information on these guidelines, click here.
