Halloween candy buy back: Kids get money for candy

Well, here’s one easy way for kids to get money without having to sell lemonade or do chores.

When Halloween ends and your kids have had enough sugar, persuade them to sell back the leftover candy you bought to local businesses participating in the Halloween Candy Buy Back Program.

The program, which began in 2005, now ships the candy to troops overseas in care packages that also include toothbrushes. Organizers say they’ve collected 130 tons of candy so far.

By participating, parents can teach their kids about dental hygiene, helping others and earning a few dollars.

While some businesses in the program pay cash for every pound of candy, others exchange services, coupons or goods so check with the business.
