Celebrate your pooch, especially if he’s a dachshund, at the South Beach Dachshund Winterfest Saturday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lummus Park in Miami Beach. Ron Magill of Zoo Miami and his wife Rita are MC’s for the day, overseeing all the activities. The event is free.
Of course, all non-dachshund dog owners are welcome to enjoy the festivities, which include at The Hot Dog Hustle race followed by the Hot Dog Donation Derby where six racers who missed out on the first race have a chance to dodge for the finish line.
That’s followed by the Singing of Dach Song and Grand March with accordionist Bob Houston playing while canines strut on the Serpentine Walkway and the audience sings along. The afternoon concludes with a raffle drawing and then the party continues at Naked Taco at the Dream South Beach for the After-Party.
The Dachshund Rescue of South Florida will be on hand accepting tick/flea and heartworm medication donations. Dr. Michael Wong of Southeast Veterinary Neurology doles out advice. Pooches can enjoy the Funhouse Area with the Doxie Funhouse, Weenie Martini Station and Odorama Plex.
Lummus Park is on Ocean Drive between 5th and 15th streets, Miami Beach, FL.
