Learn about urban funk, hip-hop and its history on Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. during the Urban Funk Workshop led by presidential scholar Ernest Baker II at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, 6161 NW 22 Ave. and then again on Saturday, July 26 at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, Dance Rehearsal Studio, 10950 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay.
Baker, who earned the honor in 2009 following his silver award in hip-Hop dance as a YoungArts finalist, was named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the art of hip-hop Dance. He also worked with Mikhail Baryshnikov and performed under Bill T. Jones.
At the workshop, participants will learn technique, freestyle and choreography in the art of hip-hop. They’ll also have the chance to ask Baker one-on-one questions during a post-workshop Q&A.
