You have plenty of choices for affordable ways to observe the nation’s birthday on Wednesday, July 4. Consider the following:

Key Biscayne offers a day of fun with a parade starting at 11 a.m., a picnic and fireworks at sunset. Head to Crandon Boulevard.

At the Barnacle Historic State Park, there will be a picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for those 11 and older, $3 for kids 6 to 11 and free for those 5 and younger. The Barnacle is at 3485 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove.

Peacock Park hosts a festival with music, kids’ activities, food and fireworks, from 4 to 10 p.m. Admission is free. The park is at 2820 MacFarlane Rd., Coconut Grove.

The celebration at Bayfront Park includes a free kids’ zone open from 3 to 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. There will also be food and music. No charge for admission to the park at 301 N. Biscayne Blvd.

The county’s fireworks display will be held in South Dade at Black Point Park and Marina; showtime is 9 p.m. The address is 24775 SW 87 Ave.

In Coral Gables, the fireworks display happens at the Biltmore Hotel. There will also be a concert by the Greater Miami Symphonic Band, concessions, and more. Grounds open at 5 p.m., the concert is at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. Head to 1200 Anastasia Ave.

On Miami Beach, there will be free live blues and jazz performances starting at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks happen after, 9 p.m. at Ocean Drive and Eighth Street.

The sixth annual All Kids Included Family Arts Festival takes place on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It features storytelling, live music, dance, interactive arts experiences and community resources for parents. The event is designed to be accessible and fun for all families, with assistive listening devices, Braille, ASL interpreters and more. It happens at the South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center, 10950 SW 211 St., Cutler Bay.

Krispy Kreme opens a new location on Monday, Nov. 7, in far South Dade.

Starting at 6 a.m., the doughnut chain will celebrate by giving away weekly and monthly supplies of doughnuts and t-shirts to the first customers in line. There will be samples of doughnuts and beverages and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. The new Krispy Kreme is at 32999 S. Dixie Hwy., Florida City.

clip_image002The YMCA of Greater Miami is celebrating a YMCA Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at three Miami-Dade branches.

The free event includes family games, safety information and demos and sign-up for YMCA membership and youth sports.

Activities will be at:

  • Village of Allapattah Family Branch, 2370 NW 17th Ave., Miami
  • Homestead Family YMCA, 1034 NE Eighth St., Homestead.
  • South Dade Family YMCA’s Field of Dreams at Miami Children’s Hospital Palmetto Bay Center, 17615 SW 97th Ave.
