housesignsHomeowners who are in any stage of foreclosure can attend a free legal seminar Saturday to learn about their rights and designed the types of foreclosure defenses available to them.

The Homeowners Legal Assistance Program will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the Miami-Dade College Wolfson Campus, 245 NE. Fourth Street, Room 3210, Building 3000.

Presenters include former U.S. Attorney for South Florida Kendall Coffey; Consumer Advocate attorney Leonard Elias of the Miami-Dade Consumer Services Department; attorney Erik Wesoloski, whose law practice concentrates in real estate litigation and real estate transactions; bankruptcy attorney Jordan Bublick; Chief Counsel Glen Theobald of the Miami-Dade Police Department; and Richard Zaretsky, a real estate attorney.

Homeowners will be able to meet with an attorney one-on-one after the presentations. They should bring their documents,  including the mortgage and note; any foreclosure papers; and any documents showing the amount past due.

Representative of housing agencies will provide financial assistance information and foreclosure prevention counseling.

Space is limited. Preregistration is strongly recommended, but not required. To register, call the Miami-Dade Consumer Services Department at 305- 375-3677.

foreclosure_imageThe Miami-Dade Consumer Services Department is putting on free presentations on foreclosure rescue fraud this week, plus outlining the free services the office provides to the public. Sessions are:

*  6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the West Flagler Branch Library, 5050 West Flagler Street, Miami.

* 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 at the West Kendall Regional Library, 10201 Hammocks Blvd.

* 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at the North Dade Regional Library, 2455 NW 183rd St.

Representatives from Mayor Carlos Alvarez’ Mortgage Fraud Task Force also will participate.
