UPDATE: The passes to the free screening in Aventura have all been distributed. We still have passes for a free screening in West Palm Beach.

We have some movie passes to give away that will give you free admission to an advance screening of “The Tourist,” a new thriller starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.

The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the AMC Aventura, 19501 Biscayne Blvd., at the Aventura Mall. The film opens Friday, Dec. 10.

To get a pass for the free movie, email miami27@miamionthecheap.com and put “Free movie tickets Aventura” in the subject line. We have a very limited number of passes to distribute, and they’ll be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Each pass admits two people. The passes will be sent via e-mail, and you’ll need to print them out.

  • Best cheap hotel: I like to stay at La Quinta.  It is cheap, clean and the fresh waffles for breakfast are great.
  • Best cheap eats: McDonald’s 49-cent hamburgers and 59-cent cheeseburgers Wednesday and Sundays, Subway’s $5 foot long or you can check out the culinary schools.  You get great food by students that could end up being the next top chefs.
  • Best thrift shop: Every Wednesday is “Wacky Wednesday” at the Salvation Army Family Stores in Miami-Dade and Broward. All clothing is 50 percent off.
  • Best cheap fun: Our county parks offer great amenities for free! Hopefully, they will not start charging for parking.  Our libraries offer great movies to borrow for free.
  • Best cheap beauty salon services: La Belle Beauty Academy offers cheap services from their students. You can check out other beauty schools and see if they do, too!

Stephanie Beck:

  • The best DATE, HAPPY HOUR and EATS are all combined at Morton’s Steak House in West Palm Beach (and other South Florida locations, though hours may vary). The setting is elegant and impressive and conducive to conversation (DATE), the HAPPY HOUR is all night in the bar offering inexpensive drinks, wine and beer, and the EATS are delicious and $5 each! You can make it dinner easily since they offer a delicious salad, mini burgers and filet sandwiches and gorgonzola french fries … yummy!

  • My best cheap date is in Hollywood. Stroll along the Broadwalk and people watch. Stop for a slice of pizza at Roccos and listen to the live music on most nights (I love Wednesdays), then end the night with a scoop from Ben and Jerry’s. Oh. and some smooching on the sand.

It’s time for another contest!

We have several copies of the DVD of Season 1 of the NBC TV series “Parenthood” to give away. This DVD was just released today, Aug. 31.

Here’s the description of the show:

Parenthood introduces us to the very large, very colorful and imperfect Braverman family.  Single mother Sarah and her two children Amber and Drew moving back home with her parents Zeek and Camille. Sarah’s sister and complete antithesis, Julia, is a successful corporate attorney trying to juggle work and motherhood, alongside her stay-at-home husband, Joel. Executive producers are Ron Howard and Ron Grazer.

It’s an all-in price, which means there are no service fees tacked on at checkout, and it includes print-at-home or U.S. mail delivery plus parking (where applicable). You’ll need to order tickets online Sept. 16 to get the deal.

In South Florida, the deal is good for Blink-182 and the concert by REO Speedwagon and Styx at the Cruzan Amphitheater; Bonnie Raitt at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater; and Enanitos Verdes at the Fillmore Miami Beach.

Like the last two weeks, you can you can buy one ticket and get one free for lawn tickets and selected reserved seats at amphitheater shows.

This deal is good for concerts at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater, the Cruzan Amphitheater in West Palm Beach and the Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami. That means upcoming concerts by Rascal Flatts,  Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival featuring Marilyn Manson and Slayer, Def Leppard with Poison and Cheap Trick, Dave Matthews Band,  Incubus (photo), Counting Crows, Crue Fest 2, Bonnie Raitt and more.

Here are a few suggestions for free and cheap spring break activities for kids, youth and families in Miami-Dade this week:

* Free poetry workshop for kids 7-10 at 2 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Books and Books, 265 Aragon, Ave., Coral Gabbles. Denise Lanier – poet, writing professor at Broward College and founder of Word Play, a poetry-in-the-schools project – will lead a workshop showing children the many forms of poetry. She’ll also focus on fun, with a silly poem about a favorite animal and a rhyming poem about a favorite place.

* Tour one of Miami-Dade County’s oldest homes, The Barnacle, which belonged to Miami pioneer Ralph Munroe. The Barnacle State Historic Park is at 3485 Main Highway, Coconut Grove. Tours are at 10 a.m, 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $1.

* Celebrate the first birthday of Moms Miami at Miami MetroZoo, 12400 SW 152nd St., Miami. Party is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7.
