Museum-on-usThe first full weekend of the month is coming, and that means Bank of America customers can visit museums free through the bank’s Museums On Us program. Just show your Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit or debit card and a photo ID on Saturday or Sunday, and you will get free admission to more than 150 museums and attractions in cities across the United States.

In Miami-Dade, you can use your card for free admission to the Miami Art Museum, Miami Children’s Museum, Miami Science Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami and the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach.

In Broward County, you’ll find deals for free admission to the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science ,the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale and the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in Dania Beach.

In Palm Beach County, you can make a free visit to the South Florida Science Museum in West Palm Beach.

You can also get free visits to museums in the Dania Beach, Jacksonville, Naples, Orlando, Saint Petersburg and Tampa Bay areas.

Miami Science Museum is offering Tripod +, a series of 10 free, monthly hands-on science workshops for Spanish-speaking families. The programs, available to up to 30 people per session, are open to families with children in grades three through six. Pre-registration is required.

All programs take place from 1-3 p.m. and lunch will be provided.

One Saturday a month, from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Miami Children’s Museum will turn into an environment designed specifically for children with special needs and their families.

On Saturday, March 9, Miami Children’s Museum closes to the public to avoid large crowds, while providing modified lighting, sound adjustments and “cool down” rooms available for children to relax in.

Special programming will include yoga, art and music therapy and more. Admission for this special event will be at a reduced rate of $6. Pre-registration for these events is required. Contact Angelica at 305=373-5437 ext. 126 or email sensorysaturday@miamichildrensmuseum.org.

Admission for this special event on Saturday, December 15 will be at a reduced rate of $6, but pre-registration is required.

Children will be able to explore and enjoy the museum in an accessible and supportive environment, with modified lighting, sound, and “cool down” rooms for relaxation. They also have special programming, including yoga, art, music therapy, and more.

Miami Children’s Museum will host is Not So Scary Family Halloween Bash on Sunday, October 21, 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Join MCM as they celebrate the opening of their Haunted House, trick or treat inside the museum’s galleries, decorate mini pumpkins and sugar skulls, do the monster mash and much more.

On Saturday, Sept 8 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., celebrate Miami Children’s Museum 9th birthday with games, face painting, an animal show and cupcakes and $9 admission price for Miami-Dade residents during the month of September. Regular prices: Admission: $16 ; Florida Resident $12 ; children under 1 year free.

Also, all family memberships purchased on Saturday, September 8 will be sold for a special price of $109 ($150 value). Memberships may be purchased at the museum or online. It is Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, and Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) will celebrate with its own shark themed festivities from Sunday, August 12 to Saturday, August 18. MCM will have a Shark Week Kickoff on August 12, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. with scary shark activities all day, followed by fun shark programming each day of the week at 3:30 p.m.

I still remember the week I spent with my husband at Marco Island and he spent the whole time glued to the TV watching Shark Week as the beach lay feet away. At least now we can get the whole family to enjoy the much anticipated yearly event!

Here are the free days in Miami-Dade:

  • Miami Art Museum: Free the second Saturday of the month with activities for families 1-4 p.m.
  • The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami: By donation 7-10 p.m. the last Friday of the month, with free jazz in the courtyard at 8 p.m.
  • History Miami (formerly the Historical Museum of Southern Florida): Free noon-5 p.m. the second Saturday of the month with programs for families.
  • Wolfsonian-FIU: Free 6-9 p.m. every Friday, often with films, talks and café drinks specials.
  • Miami Children’s Museum: Free 3-9 p.m. the third Friday of the month with activities for children.
  • Gold Coast Railroad Museum: Free the first Saturday of the month.
  • The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum (photo) at Florida International University’s south campus is always free. The second Wednesday of the month, there is a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. with a lecture and a chance to meet artists.

And the free days in Broward:
