Miami Dade College’s ‘Jazz at Wolfson Presents’ will feature pianist Jim Gasior at noon, Wednesday, December 5. Admission is free.

A frequent accompanist for the Jazz at Wolfson Presents series, Gasior is a jazz educator based in South Florida who performs regularly with Ed Calle, Wendy Pedersen, Fernando Ulibarri and Aaron Lebos.

MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents features live performances that run monthly from September through April. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Winn-Dixie and Coca-Cola have teamed up to provide dominoes enthusiasts with chance to compete against their peers in a weekend family fun dominoes tournament series in partnership with the City of Hialeah and the South Florida Dominoes Association.  Take your grandpa or introduce your kids to this wonderful family activity.

As part of the series, attendees will enjoy live music, food tastings, Coca-Cola product sampling and more. Competitors will be divided into three inter-generational divisions including Young, which is 18 and under, Mid, which is 54 and under, and Seniors, which will include competitors who are 55 years or older.

Teams will have a chance to compete for four top prize packages including Winn-Dixie gift cards, a domino trophy, a Coca-Cola duffle bag full of premiums and more, with the grand prize recipient also receiving a Winn-Dixie/Coca-Cola domino table.

Registration is free, but seating is limited. Participants can pre-register by visiting one of the participating Winn-Dixie stores or on the day of the tournament. Tournament registration/check-in begins at 12 p.m. and the tournaments begin at 1 p.m.

Miami-Dade County is offering two opportunities for residents to Adopt-a-Tree this year. The next event takes place Saturday, Sept. 15 at J.C. Bermudez Park in Doral.  You can get up to 2 free non-citrus or shade trees courtesy of the county.

If you can’t make it to that one, there’s another opportunity to get your tree on Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Miami Dade College North Campus. Single-family or duplex homeowners are eligible to receive two free trees per year, even if they’ve received trees in past years.

Celebrate the 202th Independence of Mexico at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 4:30 pm. – 9:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The annual event, now in its tenth year at MDC, will feature traditional dances, cuisine, live music, art and more.

The celebration will recreate a Mexican plaza and bazaar. Some of this year’s highlights include a performance by singer/actor Carlos Bowers, a live Mariachi band, Concheros folkloric dancers, games for children, more than 16 food vendors, art, books and crafts for sale, among other activities.
