The Miami-Dade Public Library celebrates its 12th annual Art of Storytelling international festival day on Saturday, April 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day starts with a dragon dance in honor of this year’s exchange partner, the Taipei Public Library in Taiwan. There will be activities for different age groups, live music, dance, drumming, a kung fu demonstration and more – including storytelling throughout the day. The free event takes place on the cultural plaza at the main library, 101 W. Flagler St.

From Monday, Jan. 9, through Friday, Jan. 13,  you can check out the stars of the future. Some of the nation’s most talented 17- and 18-year-olds will gather here for YoungArts Week.

They’ll share their gifts in writing, music, visual arts and photography, dance and more; each day’s schedule is here. Tickets are required for some performances. They are free but if you reserve them online there is a service fee. Performances also will be available online via livestream.

Tonight’s the night for Sleepless Night. Miami Beach’s annual cultural all-nighter starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. It would take all night to check out every offering, but here are some choices for different tastes:

Family friendly: 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Miami Beach Regional Library: hands-on children’s activities and performances
Dance: 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Miami City Ballet: excerpts from The Nutcracker and more
Drama: 7 p.m., North Shore Bandshell: Miami Lyric Opera presents Marina
En Espanonl: 9 p.m., Colony Theater: Teatro en Miami’s El Enano en la Botella
Music: 6 p.m., ExoStage at Soundscape: Nicole Henry and band
Late night: 2:30 a.m., Main Stage: saxophonist Felipe Lamoglia

All events are free and vary in length from 30 minutes to two hours. Parking is available for a flat rate of $10 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. at 420 Lincoln Rd.. Free shuttles will carry people from location to location around Miami Beach.

Called the start of the high season in the Miami area, Sleepless Night is an all-night extravaganza featuring art, music, dance and more, all of it free.

It begins on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 6. It takes advantage of the time change to present 13 hours of free cultural events throughout Miami Beach.

Performances vary in length from 30 minutes to two hours and are held at numerous venues. Free shuttles will travel among locations. There are 25 performances listed for children. Details about performers, schedules and more are here.

At 11 a.m., there’ll be an Art of Storytelling mini-festival recalling the 1970s. At 2:30 p.m., the Iron Barr dance group flashes back to that decade.
