Jazz in the Gables is a free lunchtime jazz concert series held on the Plaza of the Coral Gables Museum located on Salzedo Street, two blocks north of Miracle Mile.

The concert is held every Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. until March 27. The FIU Jazz Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, January 30.

Enjoy some music and purchase a box lunch from Catering by Lovables which are available for sale on-site every week.

The free Junior Orange Bowl Parade will take place on Sunday, December 30 at 4 p.m. at City Hall/Merrick Park (405 Biltmore Way) .

Grand Marshall Ron Magill, from ZooMiami, leads local and national marching bands, including the Northern Illinois University Huskie Marching Band, show horses, youth groups, performers, and floats down historic Miracle Mile in downtown Coral Gables.

Get 50% off tickets for the December 22 show for children under 18 for Orchestra Miami’s holiday classic Amahl and the Night Visitors (Amahl y los reyes magos) by Gian Carlo Menotti.

The opera combines vocal lines and symphonic accompaniment with a simple, touching story which reminds us about the true meaning of Christmas.

The story focuses on a young disabled boy, Amahl, and his mother, who welcome some very unexpected visitors into their home- the Three Kings- who are on their way to bring gifts to the Child.  The performance lasts approximately one hour.

Performances will be on Saturday, December 22 at 8 p.m. at the Miami Shores Presbyterian Church, located at 609 NE 96 Street, Miami Shores, 33138, and on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 2 p.m. (in English with Spanish supertitles) and 4 p.m. (in Spanish with English supertitles) at Teatro Trail, located at 3715 SW 8th Street, Coral Gables, 33134.

Join the City of Coral Gables as it celebrates the beginning of the holiday season on Friday, December 7, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The free Holiday Spectacular will include pictures with Santa, fun rides and crafts for the children. The tree lighting will take place at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Pictures with Santa will begin soon after Santa’s arrival at Merrick Park and the lighting of the holiday tree. Santa will keep coming back to Merrick Park for more pictures on Thursdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from noon to 10 p.m. until December 23.

Pictures are $6 each, full color and framed in a postcard.

To encourage the “Spirit of Giving” during Actors’ production of A Christmas Carol, the Musical, Actors’ Playhouse will give every child who brings a new, unwrapped toy to donate during a performance, one free Flexible Anytime Ticket good for any remaining show in the Musical Theatre for Young Audiences 2012-2013 Season.

Last day to donate toys will be on Saturday, December 15. All donations will be delivered that evening to Neighbors 4 Neighbors for distribution to families in need.

Based on the novel by Charles Dickens, Tiny Tim and the entire Cratchit family join three unearthly “Spirits” in trying to convince Ebenezer Scrooge to change his “Bah-Humbug” ways in A Christmas Carol, the Musical.

Village of Merrick Park kicks off the holiday season with the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, November 15, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

The evening’s free festivities include in-store events and promotions and live entertainment, culminating with the lighting of the 50-foot tree by the evening’s Master of Ceremonies, Head News Anchor at Fox WSVN Channel 7, Belkys Nerey and a visit from Santa Claus.

Join the Gables Cinema on Saturday, November 10, at 11 a.m. as it continues its regular second Saturday family and youth film screenings as part of Family Day on Aragon. This month’s presentation will be the animated 3D nautical tale The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

In the film, Pirate Captain sets out on a mission to defeat his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz for the Pirate of the year Award. The quest takes Captain and his crew from the shores of Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Special ticket prices are $5 for everyone, and includes free popcorn and a soda.
