Turoe-Pet-Farm-Santa-Santa Claus will be riding through the streets of Coral Gables and passing out candy Dec. 21 and 22.

Coral Gables firefighters transporting Santa on two separate routes around the city, passing as many homes as possible. Those who live on dead end streets can see Santa from the open ended corners of their street.

Saturday, Dec. 21

  • 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: The area bordered by Ponce de Leon Blvd, north to Bird Road, from Red Road east to Granada Blvd.
  • 10:30 a.m. to noon: The area bordered by Ponce de Leon Blvd, north to Bird Road, from LeJeune Rd west to Granada Blvd.
  • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: The area bordered by Bird Road north to Miracle Mile, from Douglas Road west to LeJeune Road.
  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: The area bordered by Bird Road north to Coral Way, from LeJeune Road west to Granada Blvd.

Sunday, Dec. 22

  • 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: The area bordered by Bird Road, north to Coral Way, from Granada west to Red Road.
  • 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: The area bordered by Coral Way north to SW 8 Street, from Granada Blvd west to Red Road.

Halloween-on-the-MileHalloween on the Mile in Coral Gables is back for its 16th year, with trick-or-treating and more free fun for families and their canine companions. The free festivities will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.

Events will include:

  • 4 to 7 p.m. Trick or treating.
  • 4 p.m. Story time at Books and Books, 265 Aragon Ave.
  • 4:30 p.m. Performances by the Young Talent Big Dreams All Stars presented by Actors’ Playhouse and The Children’s Trust at the Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile.
  • 5 p.m. Kiddie Costume Contest at the Miracle Theatre (limited to first 100 kids who arrive), 280 Miracle Mile.
  • 6 p.m. Doggie Costume Contest at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave.

Jazz in the Gables is a free lunchtime jazz concert series held on the Plaza of the Coral Gables Museum located on Salzedo Street, two blocks north of Miracle Mile.

The concert is held every Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. until March 27. The FIU Jazz Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, January 30.

The free Junior Orange Bowl Parade will take place on Sunday, December 30 at 4 p.m. at City Hall/Merrick Park (405 Biltmore Way) .

Grand Marshall Ron Magill, from ZooMiami, leads local and national marching bands, including the Northern Illinois University Huskie Marching Band, show horses, youth groups, performers, and floats down historic Miracle Mile in downtown Coral Gables.

Get 50% off tickets for the December 22 show for children under 18 for Orchestra Miami’s holiday classic Amahl and the Night Visitors (Amahl y los reyes magos) by Gian Carlo Menotti.

The opera combines vocal lines and symphonic accompaniment with a simple, touching story which reminds us about the true meaning of Christmas.

The story focuses on a young disabled boy, Amahl, and his mother, who welcome some very unexpected visitors into their home- the Three Kings- who are on their way to bring gifts to the Child.  The performance lasts approximately one hour.

Join the City of Coral Gables as it celebrates the beginning of the holiday season on Friday, December 7, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The free Holiday Spectacular will include pictures with Santa, fun rides and crafts for the children. The tree lighting will take place at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Pictures with Santa will begin soon after Santa’s arrival at Merrick Park and the lighting of the holiday tree. Santa will keep coming back to Merrick Park for more pictures on Thursdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from noon to 10 p.m. until December 23.

Pictures are $6 each, full color and framed in a postcard.

To encourage the “Spirit of Giving” during Actors’ production of A Christmas Carol, the Musical, Actors’ Playhouse will give every child who brings a new, unwrapped toy to donate during a performance, one free Flexible Anytime Ticket good for any remaining show in the Musical Theatre for Young Audiences 2012-2013 Season.

Last day to donate toys will be on Saturday, December 15. All donations will be delivered that evening to Neighbors 4 Neighbors for distribution to families in need.

Based on the novel by Charles Dickens, Tiny Tim and the entire Cratchit family join three unearthly “Spirits” in trying to convince Ebenezer Scrooge to change his “Bah-Humbug” ways in A Christmas Carol, the Musical.
