The free King Mango Strut Parade takes place on Sunday, December 30 at 2 p.m. in Downtown Coconut Grove. The off-beat parade pokes fun at everything and anyone.

The parade parodies international and local events in the last year and pushes the envelope of good taste, in all good fun.

Parade Route The strut route begins at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway. It turns left onto Main Highway and then turns left onto Grand Avenue at CocoWalk and turns left again at Commodore Plaza.

Parking (map) There is parking a block away from the parade route at the Municipal Garage at Oak Avenue and Mary Street, as well as CocoWalk, Mayfair, Coconut Grove Playhouse, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, and Coconut Grove Elementary School. The Alhambra Orchestra, with MISO concertmaster Daniel Andai conducting, presents its first classical concert of the season Sunday evening, November 18 at 7 p.m., at Ransom-Everglades School. Free admission.

The program opens with Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun,” and concludes with the monumental Seventh Symphony of Beethoven.

In a double role, Dr. Andai as soloist also joins three young artists from MISO’s Special Development Program, which he founded — Erin David, David Fernandez, , and Liuba Ohrimenko– to perform Vivaldi’s lively Concerto for Four Violins with the Alhambra Orchestra’s string section.

The Great Grove Bed Race pits five-person teams pushing home-made beds down Grand Avenue. The Bed Race takes place Sunday, September 2, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with 30 beds racing to the finish line on Grand Avenue and Commodore Plaza.

Highlights include Kids Storytelling Time; the Waiters/Waitresses Obstacle Course; a Pit Row Parade of decorated beds on display; and the 1/8th-mile trundle through the heart of the Grove Village.

Coconut Grove merchants will host a post-race celebration complete with live music, interactive exhibits. All proceeds will go to Junior Chambers Easter Seals Toy Drive and Children’s Hospital.

Key Biscayne offers a day of fun with a parade starting at 11 a.m., a picnic and fireworks at sunset. Head to Crandon Boulevard.

At the Barnacle Historic State Park, there will be a picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for those 11 and older, $3 for kids 6 to 11 and free for those 5 and younger. The Barnacle is at 3485 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove.

Peacock Park hosts a festival with music, kids’ activities, food and fireworks, from 4 to 10 p.m. Admission is free. The park is at 2820 MacFarlane Rd., Coconut Grove.

The celebration at Bayfront Park includes a free kids’ zone open from 3 to 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. There will also be food and music. No charge for admission to the park at 301 N. Biscayne Blvd.

The county’s fireworks display will be held in South Dade at Black Point Park and Marina; showtime is 9 p.m. The address is 24775 SW 87 Ave.

In Coral Gables, the fireworks display happens at the Biltmore Hotel. There will also be a concert by the Greater Miami Symphonic Band, concessions, and more. Grounds open at 5 p.m., the concert is at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. Head to 1200 Anastasia Ave.

On Miami Beach, there will be free live blues and jazz performances starting at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks happen after, 9 p.m. at Ocean Drive and Eighth Street.

On Thursday, June 21, Fete de la Musique takes over Coconut Grove. Look for musicians performing in a variety of places: sidewalks, courtyards, restaurants and more, from 5 to 11 p.m. Those scheduled to appear include singers Kevin Mahogany and Chloe Dolandis, violinist Federico Britos and many others. All performances are free and open to the public.
