The free King Mango Strut Parade takes place on Dec. 31 in Coconut Grove. The off-beat parade pokes fun at everything and anyone. The parade parodies international and local events in the last year and pushes the envelope of good taste, all in good fun.
This year expect to see parodies on Fidel Castro’s death and the Zika mosquito scare, among others.
The Strut begins with the Little Miss Mango and Little King Mango pageant at 1:30 pm, where every child has the opportunity to board the beginning float to lead the parade.
The parade itself begins at 2 pm with the “dropping of the banana” at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway. It turns left onto Main Highway and then turns left onto Grand Avenue at CocoWalk and turns left again at Commodore Plaza.
Commodore Plaza will remain closed to traffic until 6 p.m. for post-parade music and dancing. Performing will be local favorite bands.
Parking (map) There is parking a block away from the parade route at the Municipal Garage at Oak Avenue and Mary Street, as well as CocoWalk, Mayfair, Coconut Grove Playhouse, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, and Coconut Grove Elementary School.
