The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is planning two free events Saturday, May 4, a morning “Birds, Butterflies and Wildlife Walk & Talk” and an afternoon working on making rain barrels, with a chance to get a free rain barrel.
The Walk & Talk will begin at 10 a.m. in the Butterfly room, with a brief discussion by Gil Pettigrew, who will lead the1.5-hour walk through the garden, observing birds, butterflies and whatever other wildlife shows up.
The rain barrel workshop, organized by the Miami-Dade Cooperative Extension Service, will be 1 to 3 p.m. The first 50 participants to sign up will receive will also receive a FREE rain barrel made from recycled Coca-Cola syrup containers. Participants also will be able to exchange three old light bulbs for energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs and exchange up to two water-wasting shower heads for water-efficient models.

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is at 2000 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139. It’s open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and admission is always free.
