The Miami Light Project is presenting a free screening of two films with a Cuban theme and a Q&A with the directors at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, @The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse.
The films are:
“Maestra,” by Catherine Murphy. The documentary is about the young women who were part of Cuba’s 1961 literacy campaign, when 250,000 volunteers, many under 18, went out to rural communities across the island to teach people to read — and found themselves deeply transformed in the process.
“Welcome to Miami” by Gina Cunnigham and Peter Eves. This is an 11-minute version of a longer 2002 documentary about the era when a county ordinance barred Cuban musicians from performing in Miami.
The Goldman Warehouse is at 404 NW 26th Street, Miami FL 33127. While the screening is free, reservations are requested.
