If you like reading, you can turn that into free entry to Florida’s state parks on Sunday, Sept. 8. In honor of International Literacy Day, admission is free for anyone who shows a library card or a library book or donates a family-friendly book.
In Broward, the celebration includes Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale and John J. Lloyd State Park in Dania Beach. A number of state parks in the Florida Keys also will have free admission.
The Barnacle is one of several parks planning a special event: Books, Birds and Boats will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. The event will include educational activities, games and prizes, and plus story time with a park ranger. The regular admission fee of $2 per person is waived if you bring a book to donate, show your library card or show a check-out library book.
