Pedal your way through the tree-lined streets of historic Coconut Grove on a free bike tour led by Frank Schena, naturalist and owner of Royal Palm Tours of Miami. Titled The Founding Mothers of Coconut Grove: Center and South Grove by Bike” the tour is Saturday, May 10, from 9:30 a.m. to noon beginning at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Dr., Coconut Grove.
The tour begins in the Center Grove neighborhood just north of the Business District where mini-cottages and other small-scale homes, wrapped in vegetation, are still prevalent. In the South Grove, bikers will be stopping at Plymouth Congregational Church and the Old Wooden School House. Throughout the tour, bikers will learn about the lives and dedication of Grovites including Flora McFarlane, Elizabeth Virrick and Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
