SweatstockSweat Records is celebrating Record Store Day plus the store’s eight anniversary on Saturday, April 19, with the free all-day Sweatstock festival. Vinyl junkies can visit starting at 9 a.m. for Record Store Day.

Sweatstock, a free, all-ages entertainment event, begins at 2 p.m. and features DJs, live music on three stages, food trucks, giveaways, comedy and more. Later in the evening the music moves to Churchill’s.

metrorail2Miami-Dade County’s Golden Passport program provides free travel on mass transit for permanent residents aged 65 and older. Younger Social Security recipients are eligible as well.

To get the Golden Passport EASY card, you must complete this application and have a photo ID made. The senior EASY card is good for 20 years; others must renew annually with a Social Security printout proving eligibility.

Golden Passport EASY cards are available immediately if you apply at the Government Center Metrorail station, 111 NW First St., weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 786-469-5028 for more information.

Others are also eligible for free and discounted travel on Miami-Dade public transit.

Publix offers a variety of prescription medications free, including antibiolotics, lisinopril (for high blood pressure) and metformin (for diabetes). Patients with a prescription can get a 30-day supply of metformin or lisinopril or a 14-day supply of some generic antibiotics. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will have summer camps at four locations: Kendall, Northwest, South Beach and Hank Kline (Coconut Grove). Children from age 5 to as old as 15 are welcome; age limits vary by club. Each camp offers indoor and outdoor activities and field trips. Camps begin June 11 and have different prices. Miami-Dade County and the National Association of Counties offer a free discount card which they say offers savings averaging 24 percent of the retail price of prescription drugs. It can be used by those without prescription drug insurance, for drugs not covered by your insurance and on some pet medications. There are no restrictions regarding age, income or pre-existing conditions. Print a card here or pick one up at county facilities including libraries, commission offices and service centers.

In addition to produce, vendors offer local honey, orchids and bromeliads, breads and crackers, fresh juices and more. EBT cards are accepted, with EBT funds doubled up to $10 per user.
